Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, salt, and granulated sugar until well combined.
- Add the softened butter to the dry ingredients. Using a pastry cutter or your fingertips, cut the butter into the flour mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs.
- Slowly pour in the milk and mix until just combined. Be careful not to over-mix; you want your dough to be soft and slightly sticky.
- If you’re opting for garlic powder or cheese, fold it in gently now.
- Turn the dough out onto a floured surface. Pat the dough into a rectangle about 1 inch thick, then cut out biscuits using a round cutter or a glass.
Baking
- Place the biscuits on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, leaving some space between them.
- Bake for 12-15 minutes or until they are golden brown.
- Remove from the oven, and let them cool slightly. Serve warm.
Notes
For a Halal-friendly version, ensure your butter or dairy used is certified Halal. Avoid over-kneading to prevent tough biscuits. Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.
