  • 4 large potatoes, peeled and thinly sliced (russet or Yukon Gold) Choose starchy potatoes for best results.
  • 2 tablespoons butter For greasing the baking dish.
  • 3 cups heavy cream At room temperature for best texture.
  • 1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese For rich flavor.
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • ½ teaspoon paprika For garnish.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish with butter.
Layering
  1. Place a layer of thinly sliced potatoes in the baking dish, overlapping them slightly.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine heavy cream, flour, garlic powder, salt, pepper, and half of the cheese. Whisk until combined.
  3. Pour half of the cream mixture over the first layer of potatoes. Repeat with another layer of potatoes and the remaining cream mixture.
  4. Cover the top layer of potatoes with the remaining cheese and sprinkle with paprika.
Baking
  1. Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake for 35 minutes.
  2. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes or until the top is golden brown and bubbling.
  3. Allow to cool for about 10 minutes before serving.

Notes

Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to four days. Reheat in the oven at 350°F (175°C) for about 20 minutes.
