Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon ginger, minced
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons hoisin sauce
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 cup water chestnuts, chopped
  • 1 green onion, chopped
  • 1 head of lettuce (like iceberg or butter lettuce) For wrapping
Optional Toppings
  • shredded carrots For added crunch and color
  • chopped cilantro For freshness
  • sesame seeds For garnish

Method

Preparation
  1. Start by mincing the garlic and ginger, chopping the water chestnuts, and green onion. Set these aside in a small bowl for easy access.
  2. Wash and separate the lettuce leaves. Ensure they're dry and intact for hearty wrapping.
Cooking
  1. In a large skillet, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat. Once hot, add the ground beef. Using a spatula, break it up as it cooks, ensuring it browns evenly. This should take about 5-7 minutes.
  2. After the beef is browned, stir in the minced garlic and ginger. Cook for another 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
  3. Pour in the soy sauce, hoisin sauce, and rice vinegar. Stir to combine everything well, letting it simmer together for a couple of minutes.
  4. Fold in the chopped water chestnuts and green onion, mixing well. You want these to warm through and add that delightful crunch!
Assembly
  1. Spoon the beef mixture into each lettuce leaf, adding any desired toppings such as shredded carrots, cilantro, or sesame seeds.
  2. Serve immediately and enjoy the burst of flavors with every bite!

Notes

These wraps can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to three days. If you want to freeze the beef mixture, it will last for about a month. Reheat gently in a skillet over medium heat, adding a splash of water for moisture.
