Ingredients

For the filling
  • 1 lb ground beef Use lean ground beef for best result
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon hoisin sauce
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1/2 cup grated carrots
  • 1/2 cup chopped green onions
  • 1/2 cup water chestnuts, chopped
  • 1 head lettuce Leafy varieties like iceberg or butter work best
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Method

Preparation
  1. In a large skillet, over medium heat, add the ground beef. Season it with a pinch of salt and pepper. Cook for about 5-7 minutes, breaking it apart with a spatula until fully browned.
  2. Stir in the soy sauce, hoisin sauce, and sesame oil. Mix well until the beef is evenly coated.
  3. Fold in the grated carrots, chopped green onions, and water chestnuts. Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes, stirring until everything is heated through and the veggies are slightly tender yet still crisp.
  4. Separate the lettuce leaves. Rinse them under cool water and pat dry.
  5. Spoon the savory beef mixture into the center of each lettuce leaf. Add your choice of toppings like fresh herbs, chopped peanuts, or additional veggies.
  6. Enjoy your wraps immediately!

Notes

Substitutions include ground chicken, turkey, tofu, or tempeh. Prep all ingredients before cooking for a smooth process. Avoid overcooking the beef for best texture.
