Preparation
- In a small bowl, combine warm water and sugar. Sprinkle the yeast on top and let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt. Make a well in the center and pour in the activated yeast mixture and olive oil.
- Stir with a wooden spoon until the dough starts to come together. Knead on a floured surface for about 8-10 minutes, or until the dough is smooth and elastic.
- Place the kneaded dough into a lightly greased bowl, cover it with a damp cloth or plastic wrap, and let it rise in a warm area for about an hour, or until it doubles in size.
- Once the dough has risen, punch it down gently to release any air bubbles. Divide it into two equal portions if you're making multiple pizzas.
- Let it rest for 10 minutes, and then shape it into your desired pizza form.
Notes
For flour substitutions, you can swap out a cup of all-purpose flour with whole wheat flour for added nutty flavor. Ensure the water for activating the yeast is not too hot, as it can kill the yeast.
