Ingredients

Dough Ingredients
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1.5 teaspoons salt
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 packet (2 1/4 teaspoons) active dry yeast
  • 1.5 cups warm water (110°F) Ensure water is at the right temperature to activate the yeast.
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil

Method

Preparation
  1. In a small bowl, combine warm water and sugar. Sprinkle the yeast on top and let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt. Make a well in the center and pour in the activated yeast mixture and olive oil.
  3. Stir with a wooden spoon until the dough starts to come together. Knead on a floured surface for about 8-10 minutes, or until the dough is smooth and elastic.
  4. Place the kneaded dough into a lightly greased bowl, cover it with a damp cloth or plastic wrap, and let it rise in a warm area for about an hour, or until it doubles in size.
  5. Once the dough has risen, punch it down gently to release any air bubbles. Divide it into two equal portions if you're making multiple pizzas.
  6. Let it rest for 10 minutes, and then shape it into your desired pizza form.

Notes

For flour substitutions, you can swap out a cup of all-purpose flour with whole wheat flour for added nutty flavor. Ensure the water for activating the yeast is not too hot, as it can kill the yeast.
