Apple Butter Snickerdoodles

These Apple Butter Snickerdoodles are soft, chewy, and bursting with warm cinnamon flavor and a hint of apple. The apple butter adds a delicious fall twist and extra moisture, making these cookies an instant favorite with cozy vibes in every bite.

Ingredients

  • Dry ingredients:
  • 280 g 2¼ cups all-purpose flour
  • ½ tsp baking soda
  • ½ tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • ¼ tsp ground nutmeg optional, for extra warmth
  • Wet ingredients:
  • 115 g ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 100 g ½ cup granulated sugar
  • 100 g ½ cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 120 g ½ cup apple butter (unsweetened or sweetened)
  • Cinnamon sugar coating:
  • 50 g ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • tsp ground cinnamon

Method
 

  1. Preheat oven to 175°C (350°F). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. Mix dry ingredients:
  3. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
  4. Cream butter and sugars:
  5. In a large bowl, cream softened butter with granulated sugar and brown sugar until light and fluffy (2–3 minutes).
  6. Add wet ingredients:
  7. Beat in egg, vanilla extract, and apple butter until smooth.
  8. Combine:
  9. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture and mix until just combined.
  10. Chill the dough for 30 minutes (optional but helps with shaping and flavor).
  11. Roll in cinnamon sugar:
  12. Mix cinnamon and sugar in a small bowl.
  13. Scoop dough into 1½ tablespoon-sized balls, roll in the cinnamon sugar, and place on baking sheets about 5 cm apart.
  14. Bake:
  15. Bake for 10–12 minutes, until edges are set and centers are still soft.
  16. Let cool on the pan for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack.

Notes

Use homemade or store-bought apple butter — either works great.
Cookies stay soft for days in an airtight container.
Add white chocolate chips or chopped pecans for an extra treat.
Want a bolder spice? Add a pinch of clove or ginger to the dough.
