Preparation
- In a large mixing bowl, combine warm milk and instant yeast. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until frothy.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, and salt.
- Pour the yeast mixture into the flour mixture. Add the melted unsalted butter and egg. Mix until a dough forms.
- Turn the dough onto a floured surface and knead for about 5 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for 30 minutes or until doubled in size.
- Once risen, punch down the dough and divide it into 12 equal pieces. Shape each piece into a round ball.
- Place the shaped rolls on a greased baking tray. Cover and let rise for another 15 minutes.
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown.
- Brush with melted butter as soon as they come out of the oven for that extra layer of softness.
Notes
For a healthier version, try substituting half of the all-purpose flour with whole wheat flour and adjust the liquid accordingly. To help the dough rise in a chilly kitchen, turn your oven on to the lowest setting for a minute, then turn it off and place the dough inside.
