      Ingredients

      • 4 fillets of white fish (e.g., cod, haddock, tilapia, or halibut)
      • 2 tbsp olive oil (or melted butter)
      • 1 tsp garlic powder
      • 1 tsp paprika
      • 1/2 tsp dried thyme or oregano
      • 1/2 tsp salt
      • 1/4 tsp black pepper
      • 1 lemon, sliced (for serving)
      • Optional garnish: fresh parsley, dill, or chives

      Equipment

      • Non-stick skillet (if pan-searing)
      • Baking sheet lined with parchment paper (if baking)
      • Spatula
      • Mixing bowl

      Instructions

      Option 1: Pan-Seared White Fish

      1. Prepare the fish:
        • Pat the fish fillets dry with paper towels. In a small bowl, mix the garlic powder, paprika, thyme, salt, and black pepper. Rub this seasoning mixture onto both sides of the fish.
      2. Heat the skillet:
        • Heat olive oil or butter in a large non-stick skillet over medium heat.
      3. Cook the fish:
        • Place the fish fillets in the skillet and cook for 3–4 minutes on each side, or until the fish is golden brown and flakes easily with a fork.
      4. Serve:
        • Remove from the skillet and serve with lemon slices and your choice of garnish.

      Option 2: Baked White Fish

      1. Preheat the oven:
        • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
      2. Season the fish:
        • Place the fish fillets on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Brush them with olive oil or melted butter and sprinkle the seasoning mixture evenly on top.
      3. Bake:
        • Bake for 12–15 minutes, or until the fish is opaque and flakes easily with a fork.
      4. Serve:
        • Transfer to a plate and serve with lemon slices and garnish.

      Tips

      • Choose fresh fish: Fresh white fish should have a mild smell and firm texture. Frozen fillets also work well; just thaw them completely before cooking.
      • Pair it up: Serve with steamed vegetables, rice, roasted potatoes, or a light salad for a complete meal.
      • Add a sauce: Pair with a lemon-butter sauce, tartar sauce, or creamy dill dressing for added flavor.
