Steak Pizzaiola is a traditional Italian recipe known for its bold, comforting flavors. This dish combines tender cuts of steak with a robust tomato-based sauce infused with garlic, oregano, and other Mediterranean herbs. It’s easy to prepare, yet sophisticated enough to serve at a dinner party. Pair it with pasta, crusty bread, or a simple salad for a satisfying meal.

      Equipment:

      • Large skillet or frying pan
      • Knife and cutting board
      • Wooden spoon
      • Tongs
      • Serving plate

      Ingredients:

      • 4 thin-cut steaks (sirloin, ribeye, or top round)
      • 2 tbsp olive oil
      • 1 medium onion, thinly sliced
      • 4 garlic cloves, minced
      • 1 can (14 oz) crushed tomatoes
      • 1/2 cup beef or chicken broth
      • 1 tsp dried oregano
      • 1/2 tsp red pepper flakes (optional)
      • 1/2 tsp salt, or to taste
      • 1/4 tsp black pepper, or to taste
      • Fresh basil leaves, for garnish

      Instructions:

      1. Prepare the Steak:
Season both sides of the steaks with salt and pepper.
      2. Sear the Steak:
Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Sear the steaks for 1–2 minutes per side, until browned. Remove from the skillet and set aside.
      3. Cook the Aromatics:
In the same skillet, reduce the heat to medium and add the onions. Sauté until softened, about 5 minutes. Add the minced garlic and cook for another 30 seconds, stirring constantly.
      4. Build the Sauce:
Pour in the crushed tomatoes and broth. Stir in the oregano and red pepper flakes (if using). Simmer the sauce for 5–7 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.
      5. Return the Steak to the Pan:
Lower the heat and nestle the seared steaks into the tomato sauce. Cover and simmer for 8–10 minutes, or until the steak is tender and cooked to your liking.
      6. Adjust Seasoning:
Taste the sauce and adjust the seasoning with additional salt or pepper as needed.
      7. Serve:
Transfer the steaks to a serving plate, spoon the sauce over the top, and garnish with fresh basil leaves.

      Presentation Ideas:

      • Serve Steak Pizzaiola over a bed of al dente spaghetti or creamy polenta.
      • Pair it with roasted vegetables or a crisp green salad.
      • Add a side of warm, crusty bread to soak up the delicious sauce.

      Tips:

      • Use a thin cut of steak for quicker cooking and maximum tenderness.
      • Let the steaks rest at room temperature for 15 minutes before cooking to ensure even searing.
      • For extra flavor, add a splash of red wine to the sauce while simmering.
