Roasted asparagus is a versatile and crowd-pleasing side dish that pairs beautifully with everything from roasted chicken to pasta. The roasting process enhances the natural sweetness of asparagus and gives it a delightful crispy edge. With minimal prep and simple ingredients, it’s a go-to recipe for any occasion.

      Equipment:

      • Baking sheet
      • Parchment paper or aluminum foil
      • Tongs
      • Measuring spoons

      Ingredients:

      • 1 pound fresh asparagus, ends trimmed
      • 2 tablespoons olive oil
      • ½ teaspoon kosher salt
      • ¼ teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
      • 1 clove garlic, minced (optional)
      • 1 tablespoon lemon juice (optional, for serving)
      • Grated Parmesan cheese or toasted almonds (optional, for garnish)

      Instructions:

      1. Preheat the Oven:
        • Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or aluminum foil for easy cleanup.
      2. Prepare the Asparagus:
        • Wash and trim the tough ends of the asparagus by bending each spear until it naturally snaps or by cutting off about 1–2 inches from the bottom.
      3. Season the Asparagus:
        • Place the asparagus on the prepared baking sheet. Drizzle with olive oil, sprinkle with salt and pepper, and add minced garlic if using. Toss with tongs or your hands to coat evenly. Spread the asparagus in a single layer.
      4. Roast the Asparagus:
        • Roast in the preheated oven for 12–15 minutes, depending on the thickness of the spears. Thin asparagus will cook faster, while thicker spears may need more time.
      5. Serve:
        • Remove from the oven and drizzle with lemon juice for a bright finish. Garnish with grated Parmesan cheese or toasted almonds, if desired. Serve warm.

      Tips:

      • For extra flavor, try adding a sprinkle of red pepper flakes or your favorite herbs.
      • Avoid overcrowding the pan; give the asparagus room to roast evenly.
      • To add a smoky flavor, broil the asparagus for the last 1–2 minutes of cooking.
