Fried apples are a comforting, homestyle dish that’s simple to prepare yet bursting with flavor. Coated in cinnamon, brown sugar, and butter, these caramelized apples make a wonderful side dish for pork, a sweet topping for pancakes, or a dessert served with ice cream. With just a few ingredients and minutes of cooking time, fried apples are a versatile and easy-to-make recipe you’ll want to enjoy all season long.

      Equipment:

      • Large skillet
      • Wooden spoon or spatula
      • Measuring cups and spoons
      • Peeler and cutting board

      Ingredients:

      • 4 large apples (Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, or Fuji are best), peeled, cored, and sliced
      • 3 tablespoons butter
      • ¼ cup brown sugar
      • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
      • ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg (optional)
      • Pinch of salt
      • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)

      Instructions:

      1. Prepare the Apples
Peel, core, and slice the apples into about ¼-inch thick slices for even cooking.
      2. Melt the Butter
In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat until it starts to bubble.
      3. Add the Apples and Sugar
Add the sliced apples to the skillet and sprinkle with brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and a pinch of salt. Stir well to coat the apples in the buttery, sugary mixture.
      4. Cook the Apples
Sauté the apples for 8-10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until they’re tender and caramelized but not mushy. If using, add the vanilla extract in the last minute of cooking.
      5. Serve
Remove from heat and serve warm. These fried apples can be enjoyed on their own, as a side, or as a topping for various dishes.

      Presentation Ideas:

      • Serve fried apples in a small bowl with a dollop of whipped cream or vanilla ice cream for a sweet treat.
      • Top with chopped pecans or walnuts for added crunch and flavor.
      • For a savory-sweet meal, serve alongside pork chops or roasted chicken.

      Tips:

      • Granny Smith apples work well for a tart flavor, while Honeycrisp or Fuji provide a sweeter option.
      • If you prefer softer apples, add a splash of apple cider or water and cover the skillet for a few minutes.
      • For extra richness, try adding a dash of maple syrup or caramel sauce while cooking.
      • Leftover fried apples can be refrigerated and reheated as a topping for oatmeal, waffles, or pancakes.

Fried apples are a versatile, delicious treat that’s quick to prepare and perfect for fall or any time of year. With their warm, spiced flavor and buttery caramel coating, they’re equally great as a breakfast topping, side dish, or dessert. Simple, satisfying, and sure to please, this recipe is a classic you’ll want to make again and again!
