The margarita is a timeless cocktail that combines tangy lime, smooth tequila, and a touch of sweetness to create a perfectly balanced drink. Whether you’re hosting a party, celebrating a special occasion, or simply relaxing, this classic margarita recipe is easy to make and delivers a deliciously refreshing taste every time.

      Ingredients

      • 2 oz (60 ml) tequila (preferably blanco or reposado)
      • 1 oz (30 ml) fresh lime juice (about 1 lime)
      • 1 oz (30 ml) orange liqueur (Triple Sec, Cointreau, or Grand Marnier)
      • ½ oz (15 ml) simple syrup or agave nectar (optional, for sweetness)
      • Ice cubes

      For the rim:

      • Lime wedge
      • Coarse salt

      Equipment

      • Cocktail shaker
      • Jigger or measuring tool
      • Citrus juicer
      • Plate for salt
      • Margarita or rocks glass
      • Strainer

      Instructions

Prepare the glass by running a lime wedge around the rim. Dip the rim into a plate of coarse salt to coat it evenly. Set aside.

In a cocktail shaker, combine the tequila, fresh lime juice, orange liqueur, and simple syrup or agave nectar (if using). Fill the shaker with ice.

Shake vigorously for 15-20 seconds to chill and blend the ingredients.

Strain the margarita into the prepared glass filled with fresh ice.

Garnish with a lime wheel or wedge. Serve immediately and enjoy!

      Tips

Tequila choice: Use a high-quality blanco for a crisp, clean taste, or reposado for a smoother, richer flavor.
Sweetness: Adjust the sweetness to your liking by adding more or less simple syrup or agave nectar.
Salt alternatives: Swap coarse salt for sugar or Tajín seasoning for a unique twist on the rim.
Frozen option: Blend the ingredients with ice for a frozen margarita.

      Variations

      • Fruit Margaritas: Add fresh or frozen fruit like strawberries, mango, or watermelon to the shaker or blender for a fruity twist.
      • Spicy Margarita: Muddle a jalapeño slice or add a dash of hot sauce for a kick of heat.
      • Skinny Margarita: Omit the sweetener and use extra fresh lime juice for a lighter option.

This classic margarita recipe is a must-have for cocktail lovers. Its simple yet delicious flavor profile makes it versatile and endlessly customizable. Cheers to enjoying this refreshing drink at your next happy hour or gathering!
