      Ingredients

      For the Dough

      • 3 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
      • 1/2 cup yellow cornmeal
      • 2 1/4 teaspoons instant yeast (1 packet)
      • 1 teaspoon sugar
      • 1 teaspoon salt
      • 1 1/4 cups warm water (110°F)
      • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted

      For the Sauce

      • 2 tablespoons olive oil
      • 3 cloves garlic, minced
      • 1 can (28 ounces) crushed tomatoes
      • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
      • 1 teaspoon dried basil
      • 1/2 teaspoon sugar
      • Salt and pepper to taste

      For the Pizza

      • 3 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
      • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
      • 1 cup cooked Italian sausage or pepperoni (optional)
      • 1/2 cup sliced mushrooms, bell peppers, or other toppings (optional)
      • Fresh basil for garnish (optional)

       

      Instructions

      Prepare the Dough

      • In a large mixing bowl, whisk together flour, cornmeal, yeast, sugar, and salt. Gradually add warm water and melted butter.
      • Mix until the dough forms, then knead on a floured surface for 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
      • Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise for 1 hour or until doubled in size.

      Make the Sauce

      • Heat olive oil in a saucepan over medium heat. Add garlic and sauté until fragrant.
      • Stir in crushed tomatoes, oregano, basil, sugar, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 15 minutes, stirring occasionally. Set aside to cool.

      Preheat Oven

      • Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).

      Assemble the Pizza

      • Grease a deep-dish pizza pan or a 9-inch cake pan with butter or olive oil.
      • Roll out the dough into a large circle and press it into the pan, ensuring the dough goes up the sides to form a crust.
