Candied walnuts are a delightful treat that strikes the perfect balance of sweet and nutty. Whether you’re using them to jazz up a salad, sprinkle over a dessert, or snack on them straight from the jar, this easy recipe will become a go-to favorite.

      Equipment:

      • Nonstick skillet or saucepan
      • Wooden spoon or silicone spatula
      • Baking sheet
      • Parchment paper

      Ingredients:

      • 2 cups walnut halves
      • 1 cup granulated sugar
      • 1/4 cup water
      • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon (optional)
      • Pinch of salt

      Instructions:

      1. Prepare the Baking Sheet:
Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat and set it aside.
      2. Heat the Sugar Mixture:
In a large nonstick skillet or saucepan, combine the sugar, water, cinnamon (if using), and salt. Heat over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until the sugar dissolves.
      3. Cook the Walnuts:
Add the walnuts to the skillet and stir to coat them in the sugar mixture. Continue cooking, stirring frequently, until the liquid thickens and turns into a syrup that coats the walnuts evenly.
      4. Caramelize the Walnuts:
Keep stirring as the sugar begins to crystallize and then melts into a golden caramel. Be careful not to burn the sugar; adjust the heat if necessary.
      5. Transfer to Baking Sheet:
Quickly spread the candied walnuts onto the prepared baking sheet, separating them with a fork if clumped together.
      6. Cool Completely:
Allow the walnuts to cool completely on the baking sheet. Once cool, they will harden and become crunchy.

      Presentation Ideas:

      • Serve in a decorative jar or bowl for a festive touch.
      • Use as a topping for green salads, yogurt, or ice cream.

      Tips:

      • Add a splash of vanilla extract for extra flavor.
      • Stir in a pinch of cayenne pepper for a sweet and spicy twist.
      • Store cooled walnuts in an airtight container at room temperature for up to two weeks.
