Boiled corn on the cob is a timeless summer favorite that’s easy to prepare and always a hit. The natural sweetness of fresh corn, enhanced by a quick boil, makes it a simple yet satisfying side dish. Whether served with butter, salt, or other toppings, it’s a treat that never disappoints.

      Equipment:

      • Large pot with a lid
      • Tongs
      • Colander

      Ingredients:

      • 4-6 ears of fresh corn, husked
      • Water (enough to cover the corn)
      • Optional: 1 tablespoon sugar (to enhance sweetness)
      • Butter, salt, and pepper for serving

      Instructions:

      1. Prepare the Corn:
Remove the husks and silks from the corn ears. Rinse under cold water to remove any remaining silks.
      2. Boil the Water:
Fill a large pot with enough water to fully submerge the corn. Bring it to a boil over high heat.
      3. Add Corn to the Pot:
Carefully place the corn into the boiling water. If desired, add sugar to the water for extra sweetness.
      4. Cook the Corn:
Cover the pot with a lid and reduce the heat to medium. Let the corn simmer for 5-7 minutes until tender.
      5. Test for Doneness:
Use tongs to remove an ear and check for tenderness by piercing a kernel with a fork. If it’s tender, the corn is ready.
      6. Drain and Serve:
Use tongs to remove the corn from the pot, or drain the water using a colander. Serve hot with butter, salt, and pepper, or your favorite toppings.

      Presentation Ideas:

      • Serve the corn on a rustic wooden platter alongside barbecue dishes.
      • Add a small bowl of compound butter (e.g., garlic or herb butter) for guests to use.

      Tips:

      • Choose fresh corn with bright green husks and moist silks for the best flavor.
      • Avoid overcooking the corn to retain its crisp texture and sweetness.
      • For added flavor, boil the corn in milk or a mixture of water and broth.
