Beef and Broccoli is a classic Chinese takeout dish that’s easy to make at home. Tender strips of beef and crisp-tender broccoli are cooked in a savory sauce made with soy sauce, garlic, ginger, and a hint of sweetness. This simple and satisfying dish is a great option for a healthy and flavorful weeknight meal. Serve it over steamed rice for a complete dinner the whole family will love.

      Equipment:

      • Large skillet or wok
      • Knife and cutting board
      • Small bowl for sauce
      • Whisk
      • Tongs or spatula
      • Measuring spoons

      Ingredients:

      • 1 lb flank steak or sirloin, thinly sliced against the grain
      • 4 cups broccoli florets (fresh or frozen)
      • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
      • 2 cloves garlic, minced
      • 1 teaspoon fresh ginger, grated
      • ½ cup soy sauce (low-sodium preferred)
      • 2 tablespoons oyster sauce
      • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
      • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
      • 1 tablespoon water
      • Salt and pepper, to taste
      • Cooked white rice, for serving

      Instructions:

      1. Prepare the Beef:
Thinly slice the beef against the grain into bite-sized strips. Season lightly with salt and pepper.
      2. Make the Sauce:
In a small bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, oyster sauce, brown sugar, cornstarch, and water. Set aside.
      3. Cook the Broccoli:
In a large skillet or wok, heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil over medium-high heat. Add the broccoli florets and sauté for 3-4 minutes until they are bright green and slightly tender. If using frozen broccoli, cook for a bit longer. Remove the broccoli from the skillet and set it aside.
      4. Cook the Beef:
In the same skillet, add the remaining tablespoon of vegetable oil. Once the oil is hot, add the sliced beef and cook for 2-3 minutes, stirring occasionally, until it’s browned and just cooked through. Add the garlic and ginger, and sauté for another 1 minute until fragrant.
      5. Combine the Ingredients:
Return the cooked broccoli to the skillet with the beef. Stir in the sauce mixture and cook for another 2-3 minutes until the sauce thickens and coats the beef and broccoli evenly.
      6. Serve:
Serve the beef and broccoli hot over steamed rice.

      Tips:

      • For extra flavor, add a dash of sesame oil to the sauce mixture.
      • If you prefer a spicier dish, add red pepper flakes or chili paste to the sauce.
      • To save time, use pre-cut broccoli florets or even frozen broccoli.
      • For a gluten-free version, substitute tamari for the soy sauce.

Beef and Broccoli is a simple yet delicious stir-fry that’s packed with flavor. The savory sauce, tender beef, and crisp broccoli make it a satisfying meal that’s ready in no time.
