Nothing says comfort quite like a warm, homemade apple cake. Bursting with chunks of fresh apples and infused with the cozy spices of cinnamon and nutmeg, this cake is a timeless dessert that’s perfect for any occasion. Whether you’re baking for a family dinner or just treating yourself, this recipe is sure to delight.

      Equipment:

      • 9-inch round or square cake pan
      • Mixing bowls
      • Whisk
      • Spatula
      • Measuring cups and spoons
      • Hand mixer or stand mixer (optional)
      • Cooling rack

      Ingredients:

      For the Cake:

      • 2 cups all-purpose flour
      • 1 teaspoon baking powder
      • ½ teaspoon baking soda
      • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
      • ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg
      • ½ teaspoon salt
      • 2 large eggs
      • 1 cup granulated sugar
      • ½ cup light brown sugar, packed
      • ½ cup vegetable oil
      • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
      • ½ cup milk (or buttermilk for extra richness)
      • 2 cups peeled and chopped apples (about 2 medium apples)
      • ½ cup chopped walnuts or pecans (optional)

      For the Glaze (optional):

      • ½ cup powdered sugar
      • 1 tablespoon milk
      • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract

      Instructions:

      1. Preheat the Oven
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch round or square cake pan, or line it with parchment paper.
      2. Mix the Dry Ingredients
In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.
      3. Combine the Wet Ingredients
In a large mixing bowl, beat the eggs, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy. Add the vegetable oil, vanilla extract, and milk, mixing until well combined.
      4. Incorporate the Dry Ingredients
Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, stirring until just combined. Avoid overmixing, as this can make the cake dense.
      5. Fold in the Apples
Gently fold the chopped apples and nuts (if using) into the batter, ensuring they are evenly distributed.
      6. Bake the Cake
Pour the batter into the prepared pan and spread it evenly. Bake for 35-40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
      7. Cool the Cake
Allow the cake to cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring it to a cooling rack.
      8. Prepare the Glaze (Optional)
In a small bowl, whisk together the powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract. Drizzle the glaze over the cooled cake for an extra touch of sweetness.
      9. Serve
Slice and serve the cake as is, or pair it with whipped cream or a scoop of vanilla ice cream for a decadent treat.

      Presentation Ideas:

      • Dust the cake with powdered sugar for a simple, elegant look.
      • Garnish with a sprig of mint or a few apple slices.
      • Serve on a rustic wooden board for a cozy, homemade vibe.

      Tips:

      • Granny Smith apples work well for their tartness, but feel free to use your favorite variety.
      • Substitute half of the oil with unsweetened applesauce for a slightly lighter cake.
      • Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days or in the fridge for up to a week.
      • Warm a slice in the microwave for a few seconds before serving for an extra comforting experience.
