      Ingredients

      • 1 lb sausage (Italian or breakfast sausage works well)
      • 4 medium potatoes, diced
      • 1 lb green beans, trimmed
      • 1 medium onion, chopped
      • 2 cloves garlic, minced
      • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
      • 1/2 cup milk
      • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
      • 1/2 teaspoon salt
      • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
      • 2 tablespoons olive oil (for sautéing)
      • Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish, optional)

      Equipment

      • Large skillet or frying pan
      • 9×13-inch baking dish
      • Knife and cutting board
      • Mixing bowl
      • Spoon for stirring
      • Aluminum foil

      Instructions

      1. Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
      2. Cook the Sausage: In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the sausage and cook, breaking it apart with a spoon, until browned and cooked through, about 5-7 minutes. Remove from the skillet and set aside.
      3. Sauté the Vegetables: In the same skillet, add the chopped onion and garlic. Sauté for 2-3 minutes until softened.
      4. Prepare the Casserole: In a large mixing bowl, combine the diced potatoes, cooked sausage, sautéed onions and garlic, green beans, milk, dried thyme, salt, and pepper. Mix well to combine.
      5. Assemble in Baking Dish: Transfer the mixture to a greased 9×13-inch baking dish. Spread evenly and top with shredded cheddar cheese.
      6. Cover and Bake: Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake for 30 minutes.
      7. Uncover and Bake Until Golden: Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes, or until the potatoes are tender and the cheese is golden and bubbly.
      8. Garnish and Serve: Remove from the oven and let cool for a few minutes before serving. Garnish with chopped fresh parsley, if desired.

      Tips

      • You can use pre-cooked sausage to speed up the process.
      • Add a handful of chopped bell peppers or mushrooms for extra flavor.
      • If you prefer a creamier texture, mix in a couple of tablespoons of sour cream or cream cheese before baking.
      • For a quicker version, use frozen green beans and pre-diced potatoes.
