The natural sweetness of blueberries balances beautifully with the tang of lemons, creating a refreshing and colorful beverage that’s sure to be a crowd-pleaser. This homemade blueberry lemonade is simple to prepare and ideal for family gatherings, picnics, or just a relaxing afternoon.

      Equipment

      • Medium saucepan
      • Fine-mesh strainer
      • Large pitcher
      • Wooden spoon
      • Blender or muddler

      Ingredients

      • 1 cup fresh or frozen blueberries
      • 1 cup granulated sugar
      • 1 cup freshly squeezed lemon juice (from about 4–6 lemons)
      • 4–5 cups cold water (adjust to taste)
      • Ice, for serving
      • Fresh blueberries and lemon slices, for garnish (optional)

      Instructions

      1. Make the Blueberry Syrup:
        • In a medium saucepan, combine the blueberries, sugar, and 1 cup of water.
        • Bring the mixture to a gentle boil over medium heat, stirring occasionally until the sugar dissolves and the blueberries begin to break down (about 5–7 minutes).
        • Use a spoon or muddler to gently mash the blueberries for extra flavor and color.
        • Remove from heat and strain the mixture through a fine-mesh strainer into a bowl, pressing down to extract as much juice as possible. Discard the solids and let the syrup cool.
      2. Prepare the Lemonade:
        • In a large pitcher, combine the fresh lemon juice, blueberry syrup, and 3–4 cups of cold water. Stir well.
        • Taste and adjust the water to your desired sweetness and strength.
      3. Serve:
        • Fill glasses with ice, pour the blueberry lemonade, and garnish with fresh blueberries and lemon slices, if desired.

      Tips

      • Make It Sparkling: Substitute 1–2 cups of cold water with sparkling water for a fizzy version.
      • Chill the Lemonade: For best results, chill the lemonade in the fridge for at least 30 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.
      • Use Honey or Agave: For a natural sweetener, replace sugar with honey or agave syrup.
